We’re gathering at the VHCC Campus Commons from 3-5 p.m. (We’ll move into the lobby of the Keyser-Aday Theater in case of inclement weather).

Enchanted Fairy Houses

3 hour workshop

For this family friendly fantasy workshop, participants will work with WKMA staff to search the museum grounds for sticks, leaves, flowers, and other interesting, magical objects. Participants will then use what they find to construct a home built for a fairy.

There be dragons!

2 hour workshop

Join the WKMA staff as we celebrate the time when dragons ruled the skies. In this hands-on workshop, participants will use different sculpting techniques to create their very own dragon out of clay.

Tour Plus offers children hands-on art activities appropriate to the topic, and a docent-led tour of the Museum’s galleries geared to increase their motivation to create their own unique art forms.


West African/Mali Storytelling Tradition – Chiwara Head Dress

Antelope Chiwara teaches about planting crops and responsibility to community.

Ancient Greek Culture – Red-Figure Vase Scratch Drawing

An updated red-figure vase compares our modern culture to that of the Ancient Greeks.

Portrait Detectives – Living Portrait

Students read and interpret clues about a famous American and tell their story using visual language.

Exhibition Exploration – Enhancing the Museum Experience

Students unlock the world of art through gallery discussions and engaging hands-on-activities.
