Call for Entry: Connoisseur

February 9, 2023 @ 11:59 pm - April 1, 2023 @ 11:59 pm

CALL FOR ENTRY

Connoisseur

Are you a collector? Do you have museum quality art/objects throughout your home that you have carefully curated? In a creative twist, this call for entry is not for the artist, but rather the collector. Collectors are connoisseurs of a visual language and play an essential part in the preservation of art and history. At William King Museum of Art, we honor the importance of the collector with our second installation of Connoisseur.

Our Connoisseur exhibition happens every five years and invites collectors within the region of Southwest Virginia, Northeast Tennessee, Western North Carolina, Southern West Virginia, and Eastern Kentucky to submit images of art/objects from their collections to us. Consideration for this exhibit will be made by the curators of William King Museum of Art. The curators will jury the images of art/objects submitted and choose pieces of individual collections to showcase in the Connoisseur exhibit.

All art/objects should be ready for installation. Works accepted will be insured by William King Museum of Art for the duration of the exhibition. The Museum cannot accept liability for damages incurred during transit should the owner decide to drop off the art/object to William King Museum of Art.

This exhibition can include but is not limited to: historical artworks, historical objects, contemporary art, contemporary sculpture, historical craft, and historical decorative works.

Please note that all collectors will remain anonymous throughout the selection process and the entire duration of the “Connoisseur” exhibit, unless otherwise specified with curatorial staff that the collector would like their name to be known.

How to Enter

Do you have a museum quality collection with exquisite one-of-a-kind pieces? To enter, email the curatorial office photos of some of your collection pieces. If our curators feel that your pieces could be a good fit for this year’s Connoisseur exhibit, you can expect them to contact you back to set up an appointment to look at your collection. Submitting images of art/objects from your collection does not mean that works from your collection will be chosen for the Connoisseur exhibit at this time, however, we welcome the opportunity to file your photographs for consideration of future exhibitions. When submitting images of your art/objects it is recommended that you send 6-10 images of your best art/objects from your collection. If you are selected to exhibit works from your collection, the curators will meet with you to determine the breath of your collection to be shown. You can contact our curators at the following email addresses: ejordan@wkmuseum.org or abuchanan@wkmuseum.org

Please email images of your art/objects as an email attachment along with the following information:
1. What is the art/object?
2. Where is it from?
3. How did you acquire it?
4. What year was the art/object made?
5. What is the material it’s made from?
6. What are the dimensions of the art/object?
7. Who made the art/object?
8. Additional information regarding provenance, use, historical documentation etc.
9. Please include your name, your address, and your phone number. We will not send you spam email, but we do need to know your information so that we can contact you further if your art/objects are selected for this exhibition.
