Exhibit Details:

Collaborative artists Michelle Gagliano and Beatrix Ost present a body of work in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic. Inspired by the similar narratives in one another’s work, the artists aim to listen and respond to each other, similar to the “call and response” arrangement found in jazz music. The culmination of their collaboration has resulted in multiple works and an immersive film experience. Conscious of how few female artist collaborations there have been in the past 50 years, Gagliano and Ost are having a “conversation” through the shared canvas. While Ost’s work belongs to the surrealists, Gagliano’s work belongs to the abstracted landscape.

This body of work will be featured at the William King Museum of Art in the United Company Legard Galleries from December 7, 2023 through April 7, 2024. An additional exhibition will coincide at the McGlothlin Center for the Arts hosted by the Emory and Henry College Art Department February 12, 2024 through March 9, 2024.

I Could Have Been A Tree Instead is created by artists Michelle Gagliano and Beatrix Ost, andis a part of the McGlothlin Exhibition Series at William King Museum of Art
