Fall 2021 – Printmaking Classes

Tues / Thurs 6pm-8pm 

Printmaking is a fine art reproductive process with many variations that use aspects of drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, and even photography. Printmaking involves creating a unique image on a repeatable surface, then obtaining multiple identical impressions from that surface. 

Attend a Level I class for an introduction, or attend all Levels to build skill. 

Supplies (Provided): Sketchbook, apron/work shirt, disposable or dish gloves.

Cost, Non-Members: $65/week (with instruction and supplies)

Cost, Members: $55/week (with instruction and supplies)

 

• Linocut I: 9/21 & 9/23

Learn the carving and printing process of linocut block printmaking, a graphic, modern version of centuries-old relief printing process.

• Linocut II:  9/28 & 9/30

Learn the carving and printing process of Linoleum block relief printmaking. (If continuing from Linocut I, learn about 2-block registration)

 

• Woodcut I: 10/5 & 10/7

Learn the carving and printing process of woodblock printmaking. 

• Woodcut II: 10/12 & 10/14

Learn the carving and printing process of woodblock printmaking. (If continuing from Woodcut I, learn about reduction blocks and printing multiple colors from one repeatedly-carved block)

 

• Collagraph I: 10/19 & 10/21

 Learn the creation and printing process of collagraph, which combines collage and printmaking. Abstract focus. 

• Collagraph II: 10/26 & 10/28

Learn the creation and printing process of collagraph, which combines collage and printmaking. Representational focus. 

• Collagraph III: 11/2 & 11/4

Learn the creation and printing process of collagraph, which combines collage and printmaking. (Optional: Continuing from Collagraph I & II, learn advanced inking process and create diptych prints using multiple collagraph plates) 

 

• Drypoint I: 11/9 & 11/11

Learn the scratching and printing process of Drypoint, an intaglio printing process heavily based in drawing. 

• Drypoint II: 11/16 & 11/18

Learn the scratching and printing process of Drypoint, an intaglio printing process heavily based in drawing. (If continuing from Drypoint I, learn advanced inking techniques to print multiple colors from one drypoint plate)

 

Holiday Break Week 11/23 & 11/25 

 

• Monotype I: 11/30 & 12/2

Learn the color mixing, inking, and printing process of monotype, a painterly process. Trace and stencil focus. 

• Monotype II: 12/7 & 12/9

Learn the color mixing, inking, and printing process of monotype, a painterly process. Additive and reductive focus. 

 

• Grab Bag Printing: 12/14 & 12/16

Learn some supplemental print processes to add to your studio practice. Processes may include: cardboard prints, paper lithography (xerox prints), kitchen lithography, and more.

Print Shop Studio Use

Individuals registering only for studio use may work in the process of their choice but must be trained in the process or equipment before use.

Cost, Non-Members: $10/week (studio use for personal projects – consumable supplies not included)*

*Free studio use for Museum members. Just call 24hrs in advance.
