Café Pre K

Date: March 21, April 18, 1:30- 2:30 p.m.

Ages: 4 & 5 Cost: $7 per session

On the third Wednesday of the month, sip coffee with friends while your preschooler engages in an hour-long art adventure at the William King Museum. Young students enjoy gallery tours and art making; moms enjoy coffee and conversation. Register by calling 276-628-5005 ext. 116 or emailing lholderfield@wkmuseum.org.

 

Celebrate The Big Read

Join the staff of the William King Museum as we celebrate The Big Read! Enjoy a modern twist on “whitewashing” by making your mark on a graffiti wall, follow “Tom” and “Huck” on a treasure hunting adventure through the museum, and listen to stories right out of “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.” Come prepared for an afternoon full of shenanigans and don’t forget to wear your overalls! All ages welcome.

Art Spot

The Art Spot is a place where children are inspired to explore their own imagination.  Providing a multitude of  colorful books, a giant chalkboard, a playhouse, and various arts and crafts– Art Spot is sure to ignite your child’s creative fire.

Art Birthday Parties provide a custom-designed project, based on a theme or special interest of the person of honor, led by Museum staff instructors. Prices begin at $125 for 1.5 hours for up to 20 children. Price includes room rental & instructor-guided hands-on art project.

 

Tour Plus

Ages: For All Ages

Cost: $5.00/child ($75 minimum)

Dates: Flexible Scheduling

Tour Plus offers children hands-on art activities appropriate to the topic, and a docent-led tour of the Museum’s galleries geared to increase their motivation to create their own unique art forms. 

Projects

West African/Mali Storytelling Tradition – Chiwara Head Dress

Antelope Chiwara teaches about planting crops and responsibility to community.

Ancient Greek Culture – Red-Figure Vase Scratch Drawing

An updated red-figure vase compares our modern culture to that of the Ancient Greeks.

Portrait Detectives – Living Portrait

Students read and interpret clues about a famous American and tell their story using visual language.

Exhibition Exploration – Enhancing the Museum Experience

Students unlock the world of art through gallery discussions and engaging hands-on-activities.
