YOUTH ART CLASSES

Wow! I Can Draw!
Tuesdays, September 7, 14, 21, 28, 5:30-7 pm, Ages: 5-12
Have you thought about enrolling your child in private drawing lessons?  Art teacher Pam Hagy has created this small group class for children interested in learning how to draw with a focus on developing a foundation of basic drawing skills using methods from the book, Drawing with Children by Mona Brookes. Your child will leave class saying “Wow! I can draw!”

Wow! I Can Draw!  Part 2
Saturdays, September 11, 18, 25, October 2, 9, 10:30 am - noon, Ages: 5-12
For students who have participated in the beginning drawing course, this class provides an opportunity for further exploration of drawing techniques such as value, perspective, and portraiture, while using various types of media.

ADULT ART CLASSES

KOHIKI POTTERY
Tuesdays, September 7 – 28, 6-8:30 pm
Cecelia Pippin will lead this class focusing on slab construction and Kohiki slip techniques for decorating the surface.  The Kohiki technique is a process where white porcelain slip is brushed onto a dark clay body;  then the clay is stretched to create a uniquely beautiful look.  Cost is $125 which includes supplies. Figure Painting Weekend Workshop
September 11, 10 am - 2 pm , and September 12, 1-4 pm
Patricia McCarthy will lead this class in which students will draw a live model dressed in costume. Cost is $80 plus a $10 model fee. Register for the class by emailing Pat at

Intro to Jewelry and Metalwork Weekend Workshop
September 18, 11 am - 4:30 pm , and September 19, 1:30-4:30 pm
Patricia Mighell will teach this introduction to the tools and techniques of working with copper and silver. Learn the basics of sawing, drilling, filing, shaping, soldering and polishing as you create your own original piece of jewelry. Fee covers soldering materials, polishing supplies and copper and sterling silver to create a piece of jewelry. Additional supplies may be purchased as needed. Course fee is $85. Jewelry: Working with Silver & Stones
Tuesdays, October 5, 12, 19, and 26, 6-8 pm
In this class, taught by Patricia Mighell, learn to make a piece of jewelry that includes a bezel set stone or other items such as a shell, pottery shard, decorative or dichroic glass. Become acquainted with the basic tools and techniques of metalwork and jewelry making. Learn to saw, file, solder, and polish your creation. Course fee is $85; materials fee, which covers soldering materials, polishing supplies, and sterling silver to create a bezel set piece of jewelry, is $15. Plein Air Pastels in Autumn
Saturdays, October 9, 16, 23, and 30, 10:30 am - 12:30 pm, High school to adults
Experiment with the techniques used in pastel painting – layer and blend colors “En Plein Air.” Strengthen your understanding of color in a versatile and forgiving medium. Adelaid Moss will lead this class in which students will meet in the studio and then go out to paint, weather permitting. Cost is $50. Build a Better Toga Pin / A New Twist on Wire Jewelry Weekend Workshop
December 11, 11 am - 4:30 pm, and December 12, 1:30-4:30 pm, Beginner - intermediate
Patricia Mighell leads this weekend wire experience inspired by the innovative ancient Etruscan craftsmen who gave us the elegant forerunner of our present day safety pin. Workshop participants will use jewelry tools and techniques to explore contemporary twists and turns of copper and silver wire in creating an original piece of jewelry. Course fee is $85, and the materials fee is $15. Materials fee covers soldering materials, polishing supplies, and sufficient copper and sterling silver to create a piece of jewelry. Learn to choose the best subject matter for you and how to design your subject in the most
harmonious and effective way.

New stations ..... The education department has added new components to Level 1 of the Museum, ART SPOTS! The area on Level 1 encourages children to make their own art similar in style to artwork viewed in the exhibitions they have seen. This fun activity will help participants relate to the exhibitions on view in the museum galleries.
