Panoramic Gallery Opening: Theresa Markiw
Theresa Markiw of Erwin, Tennessee, was born Canada of Ukrainian émigrés and grew up in southern New Jersey. Her Ukrainian upbringing and travels abroad have strongly influenced her vividly painted still-lifes. [Exhibition on view through October 3, 2010]

Meditation with Minimalism I
Bring your yoga mat and join Jordan Mullins for some quality reflection time in the United-Legard galleries. Mullins recently travelled to the Sivananda Yoga Ashram on Paradise Island, Bahamas, and went through an intensive teacher's training course. Each session Mullins has prepared will focus on different meditative practices. You are invited to attend just one or all three.

Panoramic Gallery Opening: Carole Blevins
A native of Washington County, Virginia, now living in Holston Valley, Tennessee, Carole paints the hills and valleys she grew up among. She recently returned from Morocco where she made sketches of the cities, mountains and desert. [Exhibition on view through October 31, 2010]

Artist’s Talk: Daniel Essig
The book Mr. Wilson’s Cabinet of Wonder and sixteenth and seventeenth-century wunderkammers were starting points for the current exhibition A Cabinet of Curiosities, and they also serve as sources of inspiration for Asheville, NC book sculptor Daniel Essig. Essig will discuss his craft and how these early museums’ natural history foundations have influenced his work.

Panoramic Gallery Opening: Marlana Williams: Fragment by Fragment
“These new works remind me of female members of my family. These thoughts come forward while painting and creating, or searching for old cabinet doors, windows, or pieces of cloth: the markers of time, place and culture.”
Marlana Williams received her BA with a Concentration in Painting from University of Virginia’s College at Wise in 2002. [Exhibition on view through December 5, 2010]

Panoramic Gallery Opening: Duane Cregger
It is a play instinct that leads me to the use of a variety of oil paints and thinners, working on canvas or wood. I’ll use seemingly finished works as under-paintings to achieve a deep layering of color, texture and emotion.
A native of Appalachia, Duane Cregger lives and works in the mountains of Virginia. [Exhibition on view through January 2, 2011]
